Colbert: Trump meeting Putin again is like OJ getting parole and going glove shopping

Talk show host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday mocked the news that President Trump held a second informal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, comparing it to O.J. Simpson going glove shopping.

“How stupid can you be?” the “Late Show” host joked. “You’re in the middle of what could be the worst scandal in U.S. history, people think you colluded with the president of a hostile foreign power, then you go out of your way to meet with him again and you don’t tell anybody?”

“That’s like if O.J. does get out on parole and immediately goes glove shopping,” he added.

{mosads}Trump spoke with Putin for roughly an hour at a dinner for Group of 20 leaders and their spouses, joined only by Putin’s translator, in a meeting that had previously gone undisclosed.

“The White House has downplayed this meeting, calling it a brief conversation at the end of dinner,” Colbert said. “Brief, because after all how long does it take to give someone your room key?”

The White House on Tuesday confirmed the conversation but disputed that it lasted an hour, saying the leaders only spoke “briefly” at the end of a dinner.

“Gentlemen, if your collusion lasts longer than an hour, please consult the FBI,” Colbert said.

Trump arrived at the dinner just after 7 p.m. local time, according to a pool report. He did not depart the dinner venue until a few minutes before midnight. The dinner was scheduled to last from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., according to an official G-20 schedule.
