Rubio: It’s important for Trump to call out white supremacists

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) tore into President Trump Saturday for refusing to single out white supremacists at a white nationalist rally in Virginia.

“Very important for the nation to hear [Trump] describe events in [Charlottesville] for what they are, a terror attack by [white supremacists],” Rubio tweeted.

{mosads}Other GOP senators joined in criticizing Trump for not mentioning white supremacists in his condemnation of violence that broke out at the rally. A car plowed into a group of counter-protesters at the event, leaving 20 injured and one dead.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides,” Trump said at a press conference from his golf club in New Jersey.

GOP Sens. Cory Gardner (Colo.) and Orrin Hatch (Utah) also hit at Trump for refusing to condemn the white supremacists, with Hatch saying his brother “didn’t give his life fighting Hitler for Nazi ideas to go unchallenged here at home.”
