LeBron James slams Trump in the wake of Charlottesville

Basketball star LeBron James ripped President Trump in the wake of the racially charged violence in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, invoking the president’s campaign slogan. 

“It’s sad what’s going on in Charlottesville. Is this the direction our country is heading? Make America Great Again huh?! He said that,” James tweeted.

James’s comments come after one person was killed after a car drove into a crowd of counter-protesters during a white supremacist rally in the small college town. 

{mosads}Trump condemned the violence, but he said “many sides” were responsible and did not mention the white supremacists involved. 

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides,” Trump said at a press conference. 

White nationalist, white supremacist and alt-right groups were initially scheduled to gather in Charlottesville’s Emancipation Park Saturday to protest the city’s decision to remove a Confederate statue there. 

But as clashes broke out ahead of the so-called “Unite the Right” rally Saturday morning, police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly, breaking up the event before it officially began.

Protests continued throughout the city during the day, ultimately resulting in violent clashes that left dozens injured and one dead.
