FBI opens tip line requesting information on Charlottesville rally

The FBI opened a tip line aimed at requesting any information on the violence that engulfed Charlottesville, Va., last Saturday during a white supremacist rally. 

Violent clashes erupted Saturday in Charlottesville, a college town, during a large gathering of white supremacists and neo-Nazi demonstrators.

Heather Heyer, 32, was killed and at least 19 were injured when a car drove into a crowd of counterprotesters. The alleged driver, a 20-year-old Ohio man, is accused of having ties to white supremacist groups.

{mosads}The FBI has since launched a website and a hotline, 1-800-CALL-FBI, accepting tips and information on the violence.

The Justice Department opened up a federal investigation into the deadly events in Charlottesville on Saturday.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that a federal civil rights investigation into the incident had been opened.

“The violence and deaths in Charlottesville strike at the heart of American law and justice. When such actions arise from racial bigotry and hatred, they betray our core values and cannot be tolerated,” Sessions said in a statement.
