Obama responds to Barcelona attack: We will always stand with ‘our Spanish friends’
Former President Obama responded to Thursday’s attack in Barcelona, Spain, on Thursday, saying, “Americans will always stand with our Spanish friends.”
“Michelle and I are thinking of the victims and their families in Barcelona. Americans will always stand with our Spanish friends,” Obama tweeted. “Un abrazo.”

{mosads}At least 13 people were killed and more were injured after a van plowed into a crowd of people in a popular pedestrian area of the city on Thursday.
Authorities are calling the incident a terrorist attack, and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria took credit for the attack, according to The Associated Press.
President Trump condemned the attack in a tweet, pledging U.S. support for Spanish authorities.
“The United States condemns the terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, and will do whatever is necessary to help. Be tough & strong, we love you!” he tweeted.
Other top U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, also condemned the attack and offered support for Spanish officials.
“Terrorists around the world should know the United States and our allies are resolved to find you and bring you to justice,” Tillerson warned the perpetrators.
