Police confront suspected terrorists following Barcelona attack

Police confronted several people reportedly related to the Barcelona terror attack overnight in the coastal city of Cambrils, Spain.

Local police said they had control of responsible parties, and Spanish media reported the police killed multiple suspects, according to Reuters and The Associated Press.

Both outlets reported that Spain’s public broadcaster, RTVE, said the operation was meant to foil a similar attack to the one carried out in Barcelona earlier Thursday. At least seven people were injured by the attackers in Cambrils, according to Spanish media.

The police action was related to the previous terrorist attack, and may have preceded another attempted attack in Cambrils, according to the reports.

At least 13 people were killed and dozens injured after a van hit a crowd in a tourist area of Barcelona on Thursday. Authorities called it a terrorist attack, and it was condemned as such by U.S. officials, including President Trump.

Two people connected to the attack were arrested earlier in the day, according to Reuters.
