Hickenlooper says there’s no ‘unity ticket’ with Kasich

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) quashed a report on Friday that he was considering a unity ticket with Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), noting that he thinks it is odd when people expect a “political marriage” when two people from opposing parties work together. 

“Odd & funny that people expect a political marriage when 2 people from different parties work together,” Hickenlooper said on Twitter.

“Kasich is dapper & worldly, but knows nada about brewing beer. Loving the attention on our bipartisan work,” the governor joked, adding there is “no ulterior motive. Not a unity ticket, just working with a new friend on hard compromises.”

Hickenlooper’s comments come after Axios reported the two governors were mulling a 2020 bid to challenge President Trump.

Kasich has been one of the more outspoken Republican critics of Trump, while Hickenlooper has been seen a potential Democratic challenger to the president.

The two governors have recently worked together to prepare a bipartisan alternative to fixing the country’s healthcare system.
