Poll: 4 in 10 Republicans view GOP unfavorably

The polling data out of Gallup just seems to be getting worse and worse for Republicans. On Thursday, a poll shows that nearly four in 10 Republicans have an unfavorable view of their party.

Thirty-eight percent of Republicans view the GOP unfavorably, while 58 percent have a favorable view. On the other side of the aisle, almost nine in 10 Democrats view their party favorably and seven percent view it unfavorably.

This survey comes a day after another Gallup poll that found Republicans do not know who speaks for their party. Seventeen percent of respondents in that survey said “no one” is the leading voice for the GOP and another 29 percent of Republicans had no opinion on the question. Take together, that means that nearly half of Republicans could not name who is the leading spokesman for their party.

In Thursday’s survey, Gallup also tested what adjectives come to mind when respondents were asked what they think of the Democratic and Republican Parties. For Democrats, the top adjectives that came up were: Liberal; Favorable; For the people/working, middle, lower class; and Socially conscious/progressive.

For Republicans the top four adjectives were: Unfavorable; Conservative; Favorable; and, in a tie, Lost their way and Caters to the rich.

There was a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent in the survey.
