Voters deeply disapprove of Trump, House leaders: poll
President Trump and leaders of both parties in the House face mounting disapproval from voters across the board, according to a new poll released Thursday.
A new NBC News-SurveyMonkey poll found that Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) all face near equal levels of strong disapproval from voters.
Sixty-one percent said they view Trump unfavorably, while 63 percent view Ryan unfavorably and 64 percent said the same about Pelosi.
Out of the three, Trump holds the highest favorability rating at just 36 percent.
{mosads}Participants were also polled about Trump’s decision last week to pardon former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt for defying a court order to stop discriminatory practices when enforcing immigration laws. According to the poll, 6 in 10 Americans called the pardon the wrong decision.
When it comes to immigration, Trump’s policies are underwater. Sixty-four percent of voters said they support the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that protects the children of undocumented immigrants, while just 30 percent oppose it. Trump has recently signaled that he will likely end the program.
Americans now have an unfavorable view of both major parties, according to the poll. More than half said they view the Democratic Party unfavorably, 54 percent. That’s compared to 61 percent of respondents who said they viewed the Republican Party unfavorably.
The NBC-SurveyMonkey poll was conducted online from Aug. 24 through Aug. 29. It polled 10,129 adults, with a margin of error of 1.4 percentage points.
