Harvey named a tropical depression

The National Hurricane Center has downgraded Tropical Storm Harvey to a tropical depression as the system continues to move inland.

While Harvey continues to lose strength over Texas and Louisiana, the National Hurricane Center warned the system was still causing “catastrophic and life-threatening flooding” in southeastern Texas and parts of southwestern Louisiana.

{mosads}The downgrade comes after the storm left at least 38 people dead and forced more than 32,000 people into shelters throughout the state, according to The New York Times.

Harvey has dumped over 47 inches of rain on the affected areas, causing massive flooding, according to the report.

Meteorologists expect that the storm will move through central Louisiana on Wednesday and end up in northern Louisiana and northwestern Mississippi on Thursday.
