Mar-a-Lago, Trump golf clubs close as Irma approaches

President Trump’s three private properties in Florida, including the Mar-a-Lago resort, have closed, and guests at his Doral hotel are being advised to make lodging arrangements elsewhere as Hurricane Irma threatens the state.

“Our teams at our four properties in Florida are taking all of the proper precautions and are following local and Florida State Advisories very closely to help ensure that everyone is kept safe and secure,” a spokesperson for the Trump Organization said in a statement Friday.

In the event that the city of Doral falls under Miami-Dade County’s evacuation orders, guests at Trump National Doral will be required to find lodging elsewhere or take shelter in an evacuation center, the spokesperson said.

The hotel is waiving cancellation penalties and change fees ahead of the storm, which is set to make landfall in South Florida on Saturday. 

“We continue to send our thoughts and prayers to victims of Hurricane Harvey and are praying for those that are in the path of Hurricane Irma,” the spokesperson said. 

Trump has three private properties in Florida, including the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter and Mar-a-Lago, the private club he calls the “Winter White House.” 

Hurricane Irma barreled through the Caribbean as a Category 5 storm this week, wreaking havoc and destruction on islands throughout the region. It is expected to make landfall in Florida this weekend. 

The National Hurricane Center downgraded the storm to a Category 4 hurricane on Friday, but warned that it remains incredibly powerful and has the potential to cause catastrophic damage in Florida.
