Anheuser-Busch delivers more than 300K cans of water to Florida ahead of Irma

Anheuser-Busch is responding to Hurricane Irma by sending six truckloads – more than 310,000 cans – of drinking water to Florida. 

The cans arrived Friday in Fort Pierce on state’s east coast, Sarasota on the west coast and Orlando near the center of the state, according to a statement released by the beer company. 

The company’s brewery in Cartersville, Ga. took a day off from beer production earlier this week on Labor Day to churn out drinking water in anticipation of the storm.

“We are grateful to be in a position to help communities affected by natural disasters by putting our production and logistics strengths to work” Bill Bradley, Anheuser-Busch’s vice president for community affairs, said in a statement.

Less than two weeks earlier, the company similarly delivered some 800,000 cans of water to areas in Texas and Louisiana that were struck by Hurricane Harvey. 

Hurricane Irma, a powerful Category 3 storm, is set to make landfall in South Florida early Sunday, and is expected to engulf virtually the entire peninsula. 

The storm ripped through the Caribbean in recent days, dealing a devastating blow to islands in the region. In St. Martin, for example, the Dutch government said Saturday that an estimated 70 percent of homes on the island were destroyed by the storm. 

Bottled water and other necessities, like gas, have grown scarce in Florida in recent days, as residents and visitors scrambled to ready themselves for the hurricane.
