Spicer ‘absolutely not’ distancing himself from Trump

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer denied late Wednesday that he is distancing himself from President Trump, adding that he is standing by the president despite leaving the administration.

Making his first late-night TV appearance since leaving the White House, Spicer told Jimmy Kimmel that he remains loyal to his former boss.

“Absolutely not,” Spicer replied when asked if he is distancing himself from the administration. He added that he won’t be writing a “tell-all” memoir about his time in the administration, saying it wouldn’t be “the right thing to do.”

“I think if someone trusts you, to bring you into their inner circle of something, then it would be an act of betrayal,” Spicer said.

“I will write a ‘tell’ book,” Spicer joked. 

Spicer left the White House in July after Trump hired Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director, a position Scaramucci stayed in for only 10 days.

In the interview, Spicer told Kimmel that the explosive interview with The New Yorker that eventually resulted in Scaramucci’s firing confirmed his doubts about the New York businessman’s credentials for the job.

“I think it proved my point, that to do this job is one in which you have to have the proper background and training,” Spicer said.

“It wasn’t personal. It wasn’t that I had anything against Anthony,” Spicer added. “Anthony’s been very successful in business. He’s made a ton of money. But I just didn’t feel that he had the qualifications or the background to work in the communications office.”

Spicer landed a paid speaking job earlier this month when he signed with Worldwide Speakers Group.

In late July, he thanked Trump for “the honor of a lifetime” when he officially exited the administration.
