Tucker Carlson: DACA deal with Dems would mean ‘collapse of GOP’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson warned against President Trump’s recent negotiations with Democrats on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program on Thursday, saying it could lead to the downfall of the Republican Party. 

“Nominally, Congress is controlled by Republicans, but on immigration Democrats control the agenda. Why is that? Because Paul Ryan and many other corporate Republicans agree with them on every substantial point related to immigration,” Carlson said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“President Trump goes along with this because he wants a legislative victory badly, and his party is incapable of giving him one. This arrangement cannot last forever. A party this out sync with its own voters will collapse and splinter,” he added.”

Carlson’s comments come as the president faces intense backlash from his base for working with Democratic leadership on DACA, an Obama administration program that allows undocumented immigrants brought to the country as minors to stay in the U.S. and apply for work permits.

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter ripped Trump in a series of tweets on Thursday.

Breitbart News, which is run by former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon, slammed the president in a headline as “Amnesty Don.”

One of the president staunchest allies in Congress, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), also criticized the president, saying he would lose support from his base. 

“Trump base is blown up, destroyed, irreparable, and disillusioned beyond repair. No promise is credible,” King tweeted.
