Croatian school uses Melania Trump to advocate learning English

A private language school in Croatia is using first lady Melania Trump to encourage students to learn English.

The American Institute in the country’s capital of Zagreb has put up five billboards around the city with a picture of the first lady speaking at the 2016 Republican National Convention and the caption, “Just imagine how far you can go with a little bit of English.”

Trump, who is a native of neighboring Slovenia, is fluent in English, French, Serbian and German.

A spokeswoman for the institute told The Associated Press that Trump’s knowledge of the English language has aided her in her job as first lady.

“She had to do a lot, including delivering speeches in English and addressing huge crowds in a foreign language,” Ivis Buric said.

Trump spoke Italian with children in a Rome children’s hospital during her visit to the Vatican earlier this year.

Trump also spoke briefly in French during a visit to a Paris children’s hospital in July.
