President Trump boasted on Saturday about the strong performance of the nation’s stock market and growth of jobs in an evening Twitter message.
“A great deal of good things happening for our country,” Trump tweeted. “Jobs and Stock Market at all time highs, and I believe will be getting even better!”
Trump has frequently boasted about economic performance in the months since taking office, especially in August, when the stock market hit an all-time high. Last month, he targeted the news media for not covering record gains by the stock market.
{mosads}”Stock Market could hit all-time high (again) 22,000 today. Was 18,000 only 6 months ago on Election Day. Mainstream media seldom mentions!” Trump tweeted in August.
” ‘Corporations have NEVER made as much money as they are making now,’ Trump added, quoting Fox Business Network’s Stuart Varney. “Thank you Stuart Varney @foxandfriends Jobs are starting to roar, watch!”
This most recent tweet comes on the heels of a slightly disappointing August jobs report. The unemployment rate ticked up a tenth of a point to 4.4 percent last month while the labor force participation rate stayed steady at 62.9 percent.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said earlier this month that Trump’s economic gains aren’t reaching the middle class, warning that wage growth remains low.
“Americans still aren’t getting the bigger paychecks they deserve,” Pelosi said earlier in September.
“Hard-working men and women across America are being left behind by a Republican White House and Congress that have no jobs plan and have failed to demonstrate a true commitment to working families,” she added.
