Priebus interviewing to join paid speaking circuit: report

Former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus is in talks with speakers bureaus to join the lucrative paid speaking circuit, Politico reported Tuesday.

Priebus, who served as chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) before joining the White House, has reportedly been interviewing with firms such as Keppler Speakers Bureau, which counts former astronaut Mark Kelly and Fox News anchor Chris Wallace among its clients.

He has also reportedly met with Leading Authorities, the firm representing former 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

Priebus left the White House in July after several months in which his future as President Trump’s chief of staff often appeared tenuous.

In his final days on the job, Priebus was the subject of ire from Anthony Scaramucci, who was hired as the White House communications director shortly before Priebus’s exit.

Scaramucci, who was himself fired days after John Kelly took the reins as chief of staff, had railed against Priebus in a profanity-laced interview with the New Yorker.

Since leaving the White House, Priebus has not made any public appearances, putting him in contrast to the likes of former White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who appeared at the Emmys earlier this month and in multiple interviews. Spicer has already joined the paid speaking circuit.

But according to Politico, Priebus is quietly plotting his return to the private sector. In addition to talking to speaking firms, he is also reportedly interviewing to join a Washington, D.C., law firm.
