FEMA chief blasted for calling Puerto Rico mission ‘most logistically challenging event the US has ever seen’
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Brock Long faced backlash on Sunday for calling the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico “the most logistically challenging event the United States has ever seen.”
“I would like him to rephrase that completely,” Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) tweeted, referring to Long’s statement.

“Why do Trump administration officials feel the need to say stuff like this? What about invasion of D-Day? Landing on the moon? Etc. Etc.,” The Washington Post’s fact-checker columnist Glenn Kessler said in a tweet on Sunday.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough also slammed Long’s comments, which he called “ignorant” and “self-absorbed.”
What an ignorant, self-absorbed statement. The ghosts of MacArthur & his 75,000 troops at Inchon mock you from beneath their white crosses. https://t.co/EOlAZj0bcc

Long made the comments on “Fox News Sunday,” saying, “We have been moving and pushing as fast as the situation allows. Every day we make progress, every day we have some set backs.”
Aid, including food and water, has been slow to reach people on the U.S. territory in the wake of the storm, which slammed the island last month.
