Poll: Almost half approve of Trump’s tax plan
Nearly half of Americans approve of President Trump’s proposed tax plan, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll.
Forty-eight percent of respondents who said they are aware of the tax overhaul said they approved of the proposal, while 37 percent of those polled said they disapproved of the plan.
Fifteen percent of survey participants said they had no opinion.
{mosads}The poll comes as Congress starts to put together legislation based on the plan, which would raise $1.3 trillion over the next decade by eliminating a deduction for state and local taxes.
Sixty-two percent of those polled said they approved of doubling the standing deduction from $12,000 to $24,000, while 61 percent said they approved of a provision to reduce the small business tax rate from 39.6 percent to 25 percent.
Trump and congressional Republicans are scrambling to score a major legislative victory on Tax reform after the party failed to fulfill seven years of campaign promises to repeal and replace ObamaCare.
The POLITICO/Morning Consult poll was conducted on Sept. 29-Oct. 1, among 1,992 voters. The margin of error is 2 percentage points.
