Trump calls on FBI to release names behind dossier

President Trump on Saturday renewed his criticism of the controversial dossier alleging that Moscow had compromising information on Trump during the 2016 election, calling for the FBI to “release who paid for it.”

“Officials behind the now discredited “Dossier” plead the Fifth. Justice Department and/or FBI should immediately release who paid for it,” Trump tweeted.

“Keep hearing about “tiny” amount of money spent on Facebook ads. What about the billions of dollars of Fake News on CNN, ABC, NBC & CBS?” he continued.

Trump previously blasted two officials from Fusion GPS, the political research firm behind the dossier, for exercising their Fifth Amendment rights on Thursday. Fox News reported Wednesday that two officials invoked the Fifth Amendment in front of the House Intelligence Committee.

“Workers of firm involved with the discredited and Fake Dossier take the 5th. Who paid for it, Russia, the FBI or the Dems (or all)?” Trump tweeted Thursday.{mosads}

Facebook turned over more than 3,000 political ads believed to be purchased by Russian-linked accounts during the 2016 election to Congress earlier this month. In September, the tech giant revealed that Russia purchased at least $100,000 worth of advertisements during the election.

Trump voiced confidence in May that a federal investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia will find no collusion, even after the appointment of a special counsel.
