Conway: ‘Can’t be bothered’ with Trump campaign data firm’s WikiLeaks connection

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Friday said she “can’t be bothered” with revelations that the Trump campaign’s data analytics firm attempted to partner with WikiLeaks.

“I know nothing about that because I was the campaign manager, and I can’t be bothered with any of that,” Conway told CNN. “And the reason is we beat [Hillary Clinton] fairly and squarely on the issues.” 

The Daily Beast on Wednesday reported that Cambridge Analytica, the data firm that worked for Trump’s campaign, reached out to WikiLeaks about locating the missing emails from Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s time as secretary of State.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange confirmed the interaction after the story was published, and said he rejected the firm.

Conway said she learned about the connection from the press this week and downplayed the story. She referred to the Trump campaign’s statement on the story, arguing the campaign used the Republican National Committee for data analytics. 

When pressed by CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on whether she was comfortable with the reported connection, Conway again dodged the question, saying “it’s completely unnecessary” and that she “was focused on the issues” at the time.
