In the days leading up to the 2016 presidential election, then-FBI Director James Comey told Congress that the FBI discovered emails that were potentially pertinent to its probe into Hillary Clinton’s private email server during her tenure as secretary of State, a controversial move that Clinton has since cited as one of the reasons for her election loss to President Trump.
It was later reported that the emails were discovered during a separate FBI investigation into Weiner, who at the time was married to longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin, who has filed for divorce.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after sending women lewd photos of himself online.
