Fla. school selling bulletproof panels for kids’ backpacks

The Florida Christian School offers a range of products that are for sale on its website, including winter garments, school logo T-shirts and $120 bulletproof panels, CNN reported Tuesday.

The head of the school, George Gulla, told the news outlet that the ballistic panels would add “another level of protection in the event of an active shooter.”

Gulla said teachers receive safety training that teaches them how to properly instruct the students how to use the panels if such an attack did occur.

“The teachers are trained to instruct the students to use their backpacks as a shield to protect themselves,” Gulla continued.

The school, which hosts students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, has never faced a shooting incident, according to the report.

The school’s sale of the protective shield comes after a series of deadly mass shootings in the U.S.

On Sunday, a gunman identified as Devin Kelley opened fire at churchgoers attending a Sunday service in Sutherland Springs, Texas, in what has become the state’s deadliest mass shooting.

More than two dozen people were killed and about 20 others were injured.
