Steyer to spend another $10 million on campaign to impeach Trump

Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer said Thursday that he is planning on pumping an additional $10 million into his campaign to impeach President Trump.

In a conference call on Thursday, Steyer also announced two new television ads on top of the one that is already airing.

One of the new ads, set for release next week, will spotlight the nearly 2 million people who have signed onto a petition calling for Trump’s impeachment. The other will ask supporters to submit ideas for a new ad campaign.

Steyer has already spent $10 million on the “Need to Impeach” campaign urging Americans to sign a petition calling for Trump’s impeachment. He said Thursday that the petition has so far garnered 1.9 million signatures.

The effort has attracted the attention of Trump himself, who tweeted late last month that the billionaire hedge fund manager was “wacky and unhinged.”

Steyer’s controversial first ad calling for impeachment, which has aired across the country in recent weeks, was pulled by Fox News earlier this week. The network said the ad had prompted “strong negative reaction” from its viewers.

Steyer has emerged in recent election cycles as one of the Democratic party’s largest donors, and is said to be mulling a potential bid for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) seat. He has said he will make a decision on the matter soon.
