President-elect Barack Obama may be considering sending Vogue Magazine editor Anna Wintour to either France or England as the United States’ ambassador.
The infamous fashion editor, who had been a booster of Obama’s campaign for the White House, may be up for a position in the Obama administration, Fashion Week Daily Dispatch reported, and could potentially even include the ambassadorships to the United Kingdom or France.
A spokesman for Vogue Magazine’s American version did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings indicate that Wintour did not donate to Obama’s presidential campaign, though the Chicago Sun-Times reported this summer that she played host, along with other fashion personalities, for Obama. According to the FEC, Wintour donated $2,000 to Sen. John Kerry’s (D-Mass.) 2004 presidential campaign, and $1,000 to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in 2005.
Wintour, a native of London, has been editor of the American version of Vogue–a popular fashion magazine–since 1988.
The 59-year-old, now based in New York, was famously memorialized in the book “The Devil Wears Prada,” and played onscreen by Meryl Streep in the movie of the same name.
