Blair: NSA didn’t tap Harman
The NSA did not wiretap Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair said today.
Harman was reportedly caught on tape making a deal to intervene in a federal case on behalf of two former employees of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in return for AIPAC’s promise to lobby for her to assume the chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee.
According to the Associated Press, Blair says the NSA was not the agency that placed the tap. The Justice Department (including the FBI) is the only other agency with the authority to record conversations inside the United States, where Harman has said she must have been during the conversation in question. (Harman denies wrongdoing.)
