Trump Jr. mocks Franken’s resignation speech
Donald Trump Jr. mocked Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) after he announced his resignation on Thursday by invoking one of the former comedian’s most well-known characters from “Saturday Night Live.”
“Because I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and God-darnit people like me. #Franken,” Trump Jr. tweeted. The quote is a reference to Franken’s “SNL” character Stuart Smalley, who hosted the show’s recurring sketch “Daily Affirmations With Stuart Smalley.”
Franken also wrote a book in character as Smalley, titled “I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough, & Doggone It, People Like Me!”

The tweet follows Franken’s announced resignation from the Senate, which comes after increasing pressure from his Democratic colleagues to step down amid a number of sexual misconduct allegations.
{mosads}“I know in my heart that nothing I have done as a senator, nothing, has brought dishonor on this institution, and I am confident that the Ethics Committee would agree. Nevertheless, today I am announcing that in the coming weeks I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate,” Franken said in a speech on the Senate floor.
Franken is the latest high-profile man to depart his job amid sexual misconduct allegations.
Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) also announced his resignation amid allegations against him on Tuesday.
