Boston radio host Tom Ashbrook on leave over unspecified allegations

Boston public radio station WBUR announced Friday that one of its longtime hosts, Tom Ashbrook, has been placed on leave due to allegations against him.

“Yesterday, Boston University and WBUR received some allegations against Tom Ashbrook. Tom will be on leave from his duties at WBUR while an outside organization hired by Boston University examines these allegations. We will decide a course of action after getting the results of this investigation,” the station said in a statement.

Ashbrook was the host of the nationally syndicated public radio show “On Point.” He joined NPR and WBUR in 2001.

The allegations against Ashbrook have not been specified.

Ashbrook said in an email to The Boston Globe that he could not comment on the situation, but added: “However there is a process and I respect that process.”

The report comes after various high-profile men in the news industry, including Matt Lauer, Charlie Rose and Mark Halperin, have been fired over sexual misconduct allegations.
