Comey tweets about ‘character’ of leaders
Former FBI Director James Comey tweeted a quote Wednesday about power being a better gauge of a person’s character than adversity.
“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. … Most people can bear adversity; but if you wish to know what a man really is give him power,“ Comey tweeted, quoting Civil War-era politician Robert Ingersoll on President Lincoln.
Comey is known for his cryptic tweets, which sometimes come during news events. His latest tweet was sent during Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s grilling before the House Judiciary Committee, and a day after GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore lost a hotly contested special election for Alabama’s Senate seat amid accusations of sexual misconduct with minors.
But it was far from clear what Comey was referring to.

Rosenstein appeared before the committee Wednesday to field questions from Republicans about the integrity of Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation and increased speculation from lawmakers over whether agents’ personal politics have skewed investigations into Hillary Clinton’s email server and the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.
{mosads}Rosenstein appointed Mueller to the special counsel position after President Trump fired Comey.
On Tuesday, Moore was defeated by Doug Jones (D) in Alabama’s special election after weeks of denying multiple accusations of sexual misconduct against girls as young as 14 when he was a district attorney.
Comey frequently tweets quotes from his verified Twitter account with quotes that appear to nod towards current news events. In late October, he tweeted about “man’s inclination towards injustice” after former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort was indicted on tax fraud and money laundering charges.
