Democrat: ‘Fraudulent’ voter fraud commission got ugly death it deserved

Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly (Va.) celebrated the “death” of President Trump’s voter fraud commission on Wednesday after the White House announced the commission will be dissolved.

The Virginia Democrat remarked Wednesday night in a tweet that the election integrity commission, set up last year to investigate Trump’s claim that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton won the popular vote due to millions of illegal votes, got the “ugly death it deserved.”

“Fraudulent voter fraud commission is dissolved. The ugly death it deserved,” Connolly tweeted.

In a statement Wednesday night, Trump dissolved the voter fraud commission after months of fighting with state and local officials over handing voter roll data over to the commission.

“Despite substantial evidence of voter fraud, many states have refused to provide the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity with basic information relevant to its inquiry,” Trump said in a statement released by the White House.

“Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today I signed an executive order to dissolve the Commission, and have asked the Department of Homeland Security to review these issues and determine next courses of action.”

The panel was heavily criticized by Democrats from the start, who warned that it was being used by Republicans as an instrument to suppress the vote among minorities.
