Ex-wife of Sorensen fires back at Trump: ‘I got no due process’
The ex-wife of former White House speechwriter David Sorensen fired back at President Trump after he questioned whether due process still exists.
“I got no due process,” Jessica Corbett — whose ex-husband resigned from his White House post last week amid allegations he was violent and emotionally abusive during their marriage — said during an interview on NBC News.
“I think he knows the truth, but the truth is bad for business.”
{mosads}Corbett was responding to a tweet from Trump this past weekend in which he said lives were being shattered by “a mere allegation” and questioned, “Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?”
Corbett previously told The Washington Post that she was questioned by the FBI about her ex-husband’s behavior when the bureau was conducting a background check.
Sorensen has denied the allegations made against him and claimed he was the victim.
During the interview on NBC News, Corbett said her ex-husband “got due process when I answered the FBI agents truthfully.”
She added that people have accused her of trying to “bring a good man down.”
“But all I did was tell the truth,” she said.
“I wasn’t out to get him, I was not trying to get him denied this job by telling the truth. I do very much believe he is one of the best and most capable people at what he does professionally.”
Sorensen’s resignation last week came just days after another White House aide, staff secretary Rob Porter, resigned following domestic abuse allegations against him from his two ex-wives.
Trump last Friday praised Porter, saying he hopes he has a great career ahead of him. On Saturday, the president tweeted that there is “no recovery for someone falsely accused — life and career are gone.”
The White House on Monday struggled to explain its handling of the abuse allegations.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders read a statement Monday she said was dictated by Trump, declaring his support for victims of domestic violence.
“Above all, the president supports the victims of domestic violence and believes everyone should be treated fairly and with due process,” she said.
