Florida students protest Trump, NRA
Dozens of students in Parkland, Fla., are protesting President Trump’s gun policies and the National Rifle Association ahead of Trump’s visit to the high school that was the site of this week’s deadly mass shooting.
About 30 students began protesting around 8 a.m. Friday at a nearby high school ahead of Trump’s visit to Parkland, according to WSVN.
Trump has plans to meet with families and local officials two days after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 people. The vice mayor of Broward County called the visit “absolutely absurd” considering Trump’s opposition to stricter gun laws.
{mosads}Students were also protesting Republican lawmakers who support the National Rifle Association, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who warned against making assumptions about the cause of the shooting.
“I think it’s important to know all of that before you jump to conclusions that there was some law that we could have passed that would have prevented it. And there may be, but shouldn’t we at least know the facts?” Rubio said on Fox News.
Trump canceled his scheduled trip to Orlando on Thursday to tout his infrastructure plan in the wake of the shooting. He will spend the rest of the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.
