Police identify man who shot himself outside White House
Washington, D.C., police on Sunday identified the man who shot himself outside the White House.
Cameron Ross Burgess, 26, from Alabama, killed himself near the North Lawn of the White House on Saturday, police said.
{mosads}They said Burgess’s body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The Secret Service said in a statement on Saturday that Burgess, who had not yet been identified, approached the area shortly before noon and removed a handgun before firing several rounds.
The shots did not appear to be aimed toward the White House.
The Secret Service said that no other injuries were reported at the scene, but that vehicular and pedestrian traffic was affected by the shooting.
White House staff were told to shelter in place Saturday after the shooting, according to WTOP.
President Trump was briefed on the situation on Saturday.
