Gun protests planned for all 50 states later this month: report

Nearly 400 marches calling for stricter gun control laws will be held across all 50 states later this month in conjunction with the “March for Our Lives,” Politico reported early Tuesday.

The march, which will take place in Washington on March 24, was organized in the wake of a deadly shooting at a South Florida high school last month.

Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun control advocacy group helping to plan the event, is expected to announce on Tuesday the other marches across the country, according to the news outlet.

The group is also offering $2.5 million in grants to as many as 500 student organizers planning the marches to help pay for operational expenses, Politico reported.

Gun control re-entered the national debate with force last month after a gunman opened fire on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

That attack left 17 people dead and 14 others injured. The accused shooter, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder.

The student survivors of that shooting have emerged as some of the most vocal proponents for strengthening the nation’s gun control laws, and have put pressure on lawmakers to swiftly address the issue.
