Poll: Majority disagrees with idea that trade war would be good for US
A majority of Americans disagree with President Trump’s statement that a trade war would be good for the U.S. and easily won, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday.
Sixty-four percent of those surveyed said they disagreed with Trump’s stance, while 28 percent said they agreed with the president.
Trump last week announced plans for the U.S. to slap a 25 percent tariff on imported steel and a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum.

Fifty percent of those surveyed said they opposed the move, while 31 percent said they support it.
The announcement was met with alarm among Republicans and various U.S. allies.
The European Union responded by saying it would consider placing tariffs on U.S. goods such as Levi’s jeans, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and bourbon.
The World Trade Organization Director-General Roberto Azevêdo condemned the move, saying it could result in a trade war.
However, Trump said in a tweet last week that trade wars were good.
When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win. Example, when we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don’t trade anymore-we win big. It’s easy!

The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted from March 3 to 5 among 1,122 voters across the U.S. The poll’s margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
