Dem lawmaker trolls Trump after Cohn resigns

A Democratic lawmaker took to Twitter to “fact check” President Trump’s claim that everybody wants to work in his White House.

“Fact check: false,” Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) tweeted shortly after Trump’s top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, announced his resignation on Tuesday, reportedly over Trump’s proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Beyer’s tweet included a link to a clip from a press conference earlier that same day, in which Trump dismissed reports that his administration was engulfed in chaos by saying his White House has “tremendous energy.”

“It is a great place to be working. Many, many people want every single job,” Trump told reporters alongside Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

“Believe me, everybody wants to work in the White House. They all want a piece of that Oval Office, they all want a piece of that West Wing.”

Cohn is just the latest White House official to leave, resigning after communications director Hope Hicks announced her departure last Thursday. 

Beyer has frequently criticized Trump’s staffing decisions, calling on the president to fire chief of staff John Kelly over the handling of the Rob Porter scandal in which Porter, a top Trump aide, resigned after accusations of domestic abuse from his two ex-wives surfaced.
