High school near Parkland puts out empty desks to honor shooting victims

A high school near Parkland, Fla., put out empty desks and podiums to honor the people who died last month in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Students at Cooper City High School on Wednesday gathered around a circle that included 14 empty desks and three podiums, WPLG Local 10 News reported.

Seventeen doves were also released to remember those who were killed.

{mosads}Students in schools across the country on Wednesday staged a mass walkout to protest gun violence and call for change.

The nationwide walkouts mark one month since a gunman opened fire at the Parkland, Fla., high school, killing 17 people.

Students have been leading the charge for gun control in recent weeks, demanding that lawmakers pass new gun laws to keep their schools safe.

A march is scheduled for later this month in Washington, D.C., to protest gun violence and continue the effort.
