Meghan McCain: My father could return to Senate this summer
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who is undergoing treatment for brain cancer, could be well enough to return to work by this summer, according to his daughter.
Meghan McCain gave an update on her father’s condition to a Phoenix radio station on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported.
“I wish I had an exact date, but I just don’t,” Meghan McCain told KTAR-FM. “I am very cautiously optimistic about the summer, yes.”
The six-term senator was diagnosed in July with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
He had a minor procedure to remove a blood clot from above his left eye and has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.
It was expected that he would return to Washington in January but was unable to do so after being hospitalized for a viral infection in December.
“Anyone who has loved ones or has gone through it knows how horrific chemo is, and he’s working through the side effects of it,” Meghan McCain said. “He’s doing very well, and I feel very lucky that he is doing so well.”
