Parkland students planning more protests after ‘March for Our Lives’

Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are planning the next round of protests, after hundreds of thousands of people gathered across the country on Saturday for the “March for Our Lives.”

David Hogg, a student at Stoneman Douglas, said Saturday that students were planning future protests at state capitols, according to The Washington Post.

They’re also planning a walkout from school on April 20 in remembrance of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. During the walkout, Hogg said student activists would be working to register eligible peers to vote.

News of the plans came as protesters descended on Washington and other cities to demand an end to gun violence.

The “March for Our Lives” was organized following a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., last month that left 17 people dead and 14 others injured.

That shooting reignited a national debate over gun control and violence, with Stoneman Douglas students emerging as some of the most vocal advocates. 

The marches on Saturday showcased impassioned pleas from students, including Hogg, for lawmakers to take action on gun violence.
