Ex-congressman: I wasn’t planning to buy Comey book until Trump’s Twitter meltdown

Former Democratic Rep. John Dingell (Mich.) mocked President Trump on Sunday, saying Trump’s “pants-wetting Twitter meltdown” convinced him to by former FBI Director James Comey’s new book.

“Hadn’t planned on buying Comey’s book until I woke up to @realDonaldTrump’s pants-wetting Twitter meltdown this morning,” Dingell wrote Sunday night. “I’ve now preordered it. “

Trump unleashed a series of tweets early Sunday to attack Comey’s credibility and impartiality, calling him a “slimeball.”

“James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe. In other words, he was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job. Slimeball!” Trump tweeted.

Trump was responding to a series of stories that have come out in recent days ahead of Comey’s book release.

The Sunday morning tirade came the same day Comey’s first interview since being fired will air.

The former law enforcement official has been on a media blitz in recent weeks to promote his new memoir, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership.”

Dingell, 91, retired from Congress in 2014 after 59 years. A frequent tweeter, he often goes after Trump and Republicans.

Dingell’s wife is Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), who won the race to replace him in Congress when he retired.
