AP identifies Texas school shooting suspect

Police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in Friday’s deadly school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas.

The Associated Press reports that Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a student of Santa Fe High School who plays on the school’s junior varsity football team, has been identified as that suspect by a police official speaking on condition of anonymity.

At least nine people, mostly students, were killed when a shooter attacked the high school, according to police.

Explosives were also found at the scene, and a bomb squad was reportedly investigating a home not far from the campus.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) ordered flags set at half-mast to honor shooting victims on Friday, calling the shooting a “devastating” attack on the Santa Fe community.

“The First Lady and I extend our prayers of comfort to the survivors and the families of the victims and we will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers,” he said in a statement.

President Trump addressed the shooting at the White House, telling reporters that the attack was “absolutely horrific.”

“This has been going on too long in our country, too many years, too many decades now,” Trump said.

“My administration is determined to do everything in our power to protect our students, secure our schools and to keep weapons out of the hands of those who pose a threat to themselves and to others,” he added.
