Parkland graduate rips Pence’s response to Texas shooting
A graduate of Parkland, Fla.’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tore into Vice President Pence on Friday for his response to that morning’s shooting at a Texas high school.
“Texas doesn’t require background checks on private sales,” Matt Deitsch tweeted. “Texas doesn’t have a Red Flag Law. Texas doesn’t require gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms. Texas doesn’t regulate the open carry of long guns. Every state should check those boxes.”
Deitsch also took aim at Pence’s support of the National Rifle Association, saying “Pence sleeps with the NRA.”{mosads}

Deitsch was responding to Pence’s pledge to make schools safe again after 10 people were shot and killed and as many were injured at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas.
“We will not rest. We will not relent until we end this evil in our time and make our schools safe again,” Pence said Friday.

The Hill has reached out to the vice president’s office for comment.
Deitsch graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas in 2016 and is now the chief strategist for March for Our Lives, the gun control movement that began after the Feb. 14 shooting that killed 17 people.
Many current Parkland students have become vocal advocates for gun control in recent months and took to Twitter to offer their condolences and share their rage.
However, student Kyle Kashuv has emerged as an apparent conservative counterpart to his classmates, condemning Deitsch’s remarks on Twitter.
“I’d take you seriously if you could show a modicum of self control to keep from an ad hominem attack,” Kashuv tweeted. “It’s pathetic and beneath discourse. If you think Pence sleeps with the NRA you’re either stupid or insincere or both.”
