A Florida police officer is facing disciplinary action after writing on Facebook that he hoped Parkland school shooting survivors get hit by a car while participating in a “die-in” protest, CBS 4 Miami reported Monday.
Officer Brian Valenti with the Coconut Creek Police Department reportedly wrote on Facebook that he hoped “some old lady loses control of her car” in the parking lot of a Publix grocery store where David Hogg and other gun control activists from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where holding their protest.
Valenti later deleted his comment.
{mosads}The group was protesting the grocery chain because it contributed $670,000 to the campaign of a Republican gubernatorial candidate who is supported by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Publix later announced they were suspending their political contributions.
The chief of police for the Coconut Creek department told CBS 4 that Valenti had meant the comment as a joke and the matter will be handled internally on Tuesday.
Valenti also will reportedly make a public apology.
Parkland students who survived the Feb. 14 school shooting that left 17 people dead have become outspoke activists against the NRA.
