Maxine Waters thanks members of Sessions’s church for writing immigration policy complaint

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) on Wednesday thanked churchgoers who wrote a complaint against Attorney General Jeff Sessions over migrant family separation. 

“Thank you to the 640 UM church members for bringing charges against AG Jeff Sessions for his immoral attack on families and children in the name of the Bible,” Waters said on Twitter.

“Separating children from their parents demands an investigation by the church.  Kick him out in the name of the Lord!” the California Democrat continued.

On Monday, more than 600 members of the United Methodist Church signed a letter condemning the attorney general for the Trump administration’s controversial “zero tolerance” immigration policy.

In the letter, the group of churchgoers, including clergy and church leadership, accused the attorney general of child abuse, immorality, racial discrimination and dissemination of doctrines contrary to the standards of the doctrine of the United Methodist Church. 

Waters’s remark comes as the Trump administration faces considerable backlash from both sides of the aisle over its immigration policy to separate migrant kids from their families.

President Trump has repeatedly blamed the policy on Democrats, saying that legislation is the only way to end the policy.
