Democrats parody Melania jacket with shirt that says: ‘We care, we vote. Do u?’

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is capitalizing on the controversy over first lady Melania Trump’s jacket choice during a visit to a Texas migrant detention facility this week.

A shirt for sale in the DNC’s online store mocks the “I really don’t care, do u?” emblazoned on the back of Trump’s jacket, which she wore while boarding Air Force One en route for Texas. The first lady removed the jacket on the plane and was not seen wearing it at the facility.

“We care, we vote. Do u?” reads the dark-green shirt, which sells for $20.18 on the Democrats’ online store page.

“When it comes to the words we put on our clothes, there is ‘no hidden message.’ We like to keep it pretty straightforward. It’s printed on 100% pre-shrunk cotton — right here in the USA,” a description of the shirt reads.

Reporters and political analysts debated this week over whether the jacket choice by the first lady, a former model, was innocuous or served as a hidden message to either her husband or the migrants themselves.

President Trump himself wrote on Twitter following his wife’s visit that the message was aimed at the national news media, who he says is “dishonest.”

“’I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?’ written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!” Trump tweeted.

The first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, downplayed the garment choice, however, writing in an earlier tweet that it was “just a jacket.”
