D.C. Metro Takes on 200,000 Passengers By 7 A.M.
A whopping 200,000 people had already entered the Metro, D.C.’s subway system, by 7 a.m. on Inauguration Day, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Association told MSNBC.
To put that in perspective: That number of passengers is equivalent to more than one-third of the District’s whole population.
While people piled into the trains, some of the District’s Metrobuses were less than packed and running without problems. Buses taking passengers from the U Street-Columbia Heights area cruised into the Downtown area, which is closed to most cars.
