President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., misspelled the name of slain Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts in a tweet bashing Democrats for their response to her death.
Trump Jr., bashed “moronic politically correct culture” following Tibbetts’s death, misspelling her last name in a hashtag on Thursday.
The president’s eldest son was responding to a tweet by CNN contributor Symone Sanders who said Tibbetts’s death was about “toxic masculinity” and not immigration.
“Mollie Tibbetts was murdered b/c she told a man to leave her alone while she was jogging,” Sanders tweeted. “Her murderer happens to be undocumented. This isn’t about border security. This is about toxic masculinity. Mollie Tibbetts lost her life b/c a man couldn’t take her saying no. Full stop.”

Trump Jr. called it “one of the dumbest takes on a terrible tragedy I’ve ever seen.”
Many social media users quickly pointed out his spelling error, including British actor, Tom Payne, who stars in AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”
“Your tweet might be strong if you SPELT HER NAME RIGHT,” Payne commented on Trump Jr.’s tweet before adding “#DonaldGumpJr.”
Tibbetts’s body was found this week after she went missing more than a month ago. Trump and his administration have alleged that Cristhian Bahena Rivera, who was charged this week in connection with Tibbetts’s murder, is an undocumented immigrant, and have seized on Tibbetts’s death as a way to push reforms for immigration legislation. Rivera’s attorney has disputed claims that Rivera is in the U.S. illegally.
“[Tibbetts] was killed by a horrible person that came in from Mexico, illegally here, found by [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], our great ICE who’s abused by the Democrats and the left, and without them you might not be sitting here so comfortably right now,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” host Ainsley Earhardt during an interview that aired Thursday.
“I just think it’s so sad. We’re building the wall. It’s already started. … The wall is going up. A lot of people don’t know that. I’d like to build it even faster, but dealing with the Democrats is very tough,” Trump said.
Rivera’s attorney Allen Richards has denied that his client was in the country illegally and called Trump “sad and sorry” for weighing in on the matter and potentially tainting a jury selection.
A few members of Tibbetts’s family have appeared to push back on the immigration rhetoric surrounding her death.
Samantha Lucas, Tibbetts’s second cousin, said the slain student would not want her death to be used as “fuel against undocumented immigrants.”
