Parkland students respond to Jacksonville mass shooting

Student survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting called out Florida politicians and the National Rifle Association (NRA) after a mass shooting at a Jacksonville video game tournament.

The shooting took place Saturday afternoon during a “Madden NFL 19” tournament at the GLHF Game Bar in downtown Jacksonville, according to multiple reports.

There were reportedly several fatalities and multiple victims, but authorities have not released an official number.

The suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, The Associated Press reported.

Many of the students who survived the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have become outspoken gun control activists in recent months, founding the March for Our Lives organization.

David Hogg called out Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and called on the Republican to enact gun control reforms.

“How many mass shootings in your state will it take for you to do something?” Hogg asked.

Hogg also said he would unsubscribe or unfollow news organizations that publish the name or photo of the alleged gunman as part of his “No Notoriety” campaign.

Delaney Tarr took to Twitter to vent her frustration at need for the #AnotherFLShooting hashtag that was circulating on the social media platform.

“There’s nothing I hate more than having to use the hashtag #AnotherFLShooting, but people need to realize that THIS KEEPS HAPPENING,” Tarr wrote.

Gamers participating in Saturday’s tournament were livestreaming as they played the NFL Madden 19 video game.

Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jamie Guttenberg was one of 17 people killed in the Parkland shooting, shared the “disturbing” footage from the livestream.

“To NRA, gun lobby, manufacturers and everyone else, enough of your moronic twisting of the 2nd amendment,” Guttenberg tweeted. “We have a right to public safety. Enough of your BS.”

He also called on legislators and the NRA to do more.

“Do not say thoughts and prayers, do not say we need to wait,” Guttenberg tweeted.

Other members of the Parkland and March for Our Lives communities responded to the Jacksonville shooting.
