Report: Gregory to Host ‘Meet the Press’

David Gregory, the NBC News correspondent and host, will take over moderator duties on “Meet the Press,” according to The Huffington Post.

Gregory had been the network’s White House correspondent. He currently hosts “1600 Pennsylvania Avenue” on MSNBC.

Tom Brokaw has served as a interim moderator since host Tim Russert passed away last summer.

NBC News and Gregory’s agent wouldn’t confirm or deny the report that he’ll succeed Russert, according to The New York Observer.

Gregory’s appointment is getting mixed reviews in the blogosphere, which was home to a movement to draft NBC News political director Chuck Todd as “Meet” host. Balloon Juice’s John Cole calls it “depressing news.” But Tina Brown suggested that Gregory will at least be more aggressive in questioning guests than Brokaw has been.
