Former Rep. John Dingell returns to Twitter after heart attack

Former Michigan Democratic Rep. John Dingell returned to Twitter on Tuesday, thanking well-wishers for their kind words following his reported heart attack on Monday.

The tweet from the 92-year-old former congressman comes after his wife, Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), had announced the heart attack on Monday.

“Rumors of my demise may have only been slightly exaggerated, but I’m still here and you’re not done with me yet. Thankful for all of your thoughts, your prayers, and for @RepDebDingell. Just not in that order,” he wrote.

Rep. Dingell had said on Monday her husband had retained his jovial mood after the attack.

{mosads}”It appears John Dingell had a heart attack early this morning. He’s alert and in good spirits, cracking jokes like always,” she said in a statement Monday.

“Our sincere thanks to all the medical professionals and nurses at our sides. We’ll know more later,” she added.

Former Rep. Dingell retired from Congress in January 2015 after 60 years in Congress, and remains the longest-serving member of Congress in history.

The former congressman’s last tweet before his heart attack came Sunday, while apparently watching Sunday’s NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings, which ended in a tie in overtime after two missed field goals.

“Beginning to think I could be an NFL kicker,” he joked Sunday.
